Miami University Represents! Here’s Your iPod Julie!

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

julieJulie Kennedy,  posts a nice collection of Miami University (Ohio)! She reached 20,000 points by uploading, selling and sharing her college notes from Miami University! We just shipped Julie an iPod Touch’s to say ‘Thanks!’

Julie had the following to say about us:

“After finding an advertisement for ShareNotes a couple weeks ago, I was anxious and motivated to get rewarded for my hard work my last three years of college note taking.  I was skeptical at first, but after researching and reading testimonials I realized that this was a legitimate site for getting rewarded for my note taking.  The ShareNotes customer service team does an outstanding job with replying within 24 hours and answering any question you may have.  This site is great and I plan on continuing to use this for my last year of college and telling everyone I know about it! “

Sharing and Selling College Lecture Notes Pays Off Again!

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

zZhaonan, also known as “Z” for short, steps up to the plate and posts a nice collection of Cornell University Lecture Notes! He reached 20,000 points by uploading, selling and sharing his college notes from Cornell University! We just shipped him an iPod Touch’s to say ‘Thanks!’  Hey “Z”, if you read this make sure you upgrade your software to the new OS 3.0. It rocks!

“Z” had the following to say about us:

“I first found ShareNotes.com from Wikipedia when I was researching on another note uploading website. ShareNotes.com was not the first uploading website that I joined but it definitely is the best one so far. I had no problems uploading notes or getting points unlike other websites and the best part is that it’s so simple to use. I first came to the idea of uploading my notes last year during the end of freshman year of college. I had so many notes from so many classes and I felt that it’d be a waste if I just dumped them. I also felt that the notes could be used to help other people out if they missed something during lecture.”

Why taking and sharing notes is so important.

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Think note taking is over rated? Are you a good listener? That should be enough, right? Wrong! Research shows that students can typically only remember 50% of what they hear, and of that about 20-30% is correct! That means by just listening, no matter how intently, you might be missing 70-80% of your class! Obviously sites like sharenotes.com were created to combat this sad statistic. And it’s no wonder that it’s become so popular so quickly.

If you think about it, even if you take strong notes on your own, note sharing is integral in getting the most out of lectures. Taking what we know from just listening above, even if we take great notes, you still may only be getting 65-75% of your class’ content. Missing 25% of class is not a good thing. sharenotes.com allows you to fill in the gaps in your own notes or help others to do it. When I read that stat above I took my note taking way more seriously. I try to get at least a couple other peoples notes, especially in classes that are particularly tough.

I know it’s saved me on more than a couple of exams. Getting an alternative perspective is a good thing because it allows you to bolster what you already know, verify what you took down and perhaps fill the gaps on anything you missed.

Congrats to the Lakers

I know not everyone on sharenotes.com is a Laker fan, so this might be pointed to the west coast students that might be reading this. If you’ve read some of my previous posts you know I’m a fan, and I’m pleased Kobe got another ring.

Agree with me? Lets hear it. Disagree? More then a few students on sharenotes.com are out of Florida, I’m open to hear your side of things too. Just keep the comments civil and we’ll have a nice discussion about next year. Anyway Congrats to the Lakers!

Facebook opens custom URL, did you get one?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Last weekend Facebook became the most recent (or last depending on how you look at it) of the social networking sites to open up their URL to be customized. This of course is to assist in having people find you, or just to be funny. sharenotes.com probably has at least a few of the 200 million that were part of the 200,000 that signed up on Saturday. Oh did I mention that this happened in the first three minutes? By now I’m sure it’s in the millions. So did you get one?

Are you perhaps the clever individual who snapped up /icanhazcheezburger or were one of the ones fighting for /starwarskid etc… I have to admit I considered something getting one for myself, perhaps something funny, but alas you need to have 1000 friends. I’m no where near that popular.

sharenotes.com roll call. Who got a good one, lets hear them, c’mon chocolaterain I know you’re out there.
